We tend to try ...I'm the same way with recipes. We tend to try a lot of new food so I can't free form much. My best success recreating a dish was after a trip to Boulder, Co. We had an awesome fennel, apple and proscuitto salad with a Parmesan lemon vinaigrette and some cilantro tossed in. Mmm!
